Hix Island House is located on the Spanish Virgin Island of Vieques, near St. Thomas and St. John. We are a short scheduled 22-minute flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico which is conveniently within 3 hours of the eastern seaboard of the United States.

The Hotel rests on a high ridge and is designed to highlight stunning Caribbean Sea views and capture the refreshing trade winds. It is an 8-minute drive from the Vieques Airport on hwy. 995.

We recommend you rent a vehicle to enjoy the Hotel and the island’s 18,000 acres Fish and Wildlife Reserve and its beaches. To quote John Hix Architect, “Vieques, is the undeveloped Central Park of the Caribbean”.

Sun Bay, the most popular beach is a 7-minute drive from the Hotel. The amazing and numerous beaches on the Wildlife Refuge are about a 20-minute drive. The restaurants of Esperanza are 7 minutes away and Isabel Segunda, the larger village, is 25 minutes from the Hotel.

Getting Here

You can check your luggage through to Vieques (VQS) using the following air lines: American, Delta, Jet Blue, and United. Please verify with your travel agent.

We recommend that our guests travel to Vieques by air. The ferry schedules can change without notice and there are at times limited ticket sales for visitors. Vieques Air Link, Cape Air, Silver formerly Seaborne Airlines, and Air Flamenco service Vieques.

From San Juan, Puerto Rico

• Fly from San Juan International Airport to Vieques (scheduled 22 minutes).
• Fly from San Juan Isla Grande Airport to Vieques (scheduled 25 minutes).
• Take a taxi to Ceiba International Airport (about 1.25 hrs. depending on traffic), and then take a plane to Vieques (scheduled 7 minutes).
• Take a taxi to Ceiba Ferry Terminal), and then take the passenger ferry to Vieques (about 30 minutes) or cargo ferry to Vieques (about 45 minutes). It is best to book ahead.
